A little catch up

After downloading pictures from our ancient camera into our rickety computer I realized that I have a lot of tidbits to share from the last month.

This pic is for Rebecca!  Here is the completed play area, pea stone and all!  The playhouse was a gift from my brother-in-law’s ten year old neighbor, who decided last year that she was too big for it.  The two bushy looking gardens are the herb/tomato garden and the berry bed, though the berries are quickly spreading beyond the confines of the bed.  If you look closely, you’ll see a little spruce tree between the berry bed and the play area.  Olivia loves that little tree and waters it every time we are over there (about twice a day).

During their recent visit, our neice came over for the afternoon–she said she wanted to do some normal things including vacuuming.  Yes, I let her.

She and Olivia pulled out the basket of playsilks and the tutu I bought for Liv when she was way too young for it.  I’m not sure why I thought an 18 month old would enjoy a tutu, but it felt like a waste until recently.

Lest you think we spent the day inside, look what my eagle-eyed neice found in the grass…

I was convinced it was only a cricket until she picked it up.  One of the reasons I am so glad to have married into Jamie’s family is that it is a family full of amazing children that I am happy to call neice or nephew.  Two of our other neices found fishing line and a hook at the park one aftrernoon while I was pushing Olivia on the swings.  They caught two fish, those clever ones!

Jamie?  Oh yeah, it’s summer so he is hardly home.  Here he is with Olivia during his midday interlude between jobs.  Even though he works about 80 hours a week he the most “present” parent I’ve ever known.

I’ve wanted a sewing machine for a long, long time.  I have a story about this one, but I’ll tell that later.  This one is a beauty, though, and I can’t wait to learn how to sew!

Finally, my sweet one.  This has been such a hard summer for her, between Jamie’s crazy schedule, loads of company, and now I’m working too, she has a lot to process.  I am amazed by her, though.  She loves her school now although she still hesitates when we drop her off.  Yesterday she informed me that everyone has jello in their lunch–everyone except for her.  In cubes.

So, last night we made jello for her lunchbox and I gave her a little bowl to try.  She took a cube in her spoon and sucked it in/spit it out/sucked it in/spit it out and said, “See mom?  That’s what you do with jello, that’s how the kids eat it.”
